In Ghana, a barber shop is anything from a posh salon, to one man, a wooden stool, and a pair of scissors, under a tree in the open.
You don't get to flick through issues of Black Hair Magazine. Instead, you look at the board and pick your style.
Style names can be taken from political, social and national events, popular music and loads of other influences.
Ladies hairstyles, particularly braided, woven, threaded and plaited styles, can be a form of non-verbal communication and make a point to a lover, love rival, family member, friend or foe, without ever saying a word!
The boards are made from plywood and are individually hand painted.
